A work in progress

The good news is that we have a lot of room to work with in our yard. The bad news is that the weeds can easily fill in the spaces before we do. Our lawn wasn't in great shape when we moved in and hasn't been worth the effort for us. We prefer our flower gardens, fruiting shrubs and raised bed vegetable gardens. Three of our favorite projects are pictured above. The hollyhocks bring back special memories because they are from seed collected by my mother-in-law years ago. The bee balm pictured in the center is a favorite of ours because the hummingbirds love it. The red currants are special because every year near our wedding anniversary, we pick them and make a one gallon batch of "Ruby Lady" wine to be enjoyed the next year for our anniversary. The yard is definitely a work in progress with much left to do. However, we are enjoying ourselves along the way.

Love the sentimental value of your hollyhocks and what a sweet anniversary tradition you and your husband have going on. Nice that you're enjoying all the work in the yard, otherwise it's just not worth it, right? My parents were here today to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary and we had rhubarb pie for dessert. I think of you as the rhubarb blogger.

Hey, finally the long awaited photo of the back of your house! It is nice to see it in relation to your garden beds. It looks great and had to smile when I enlarged the photo to see my dear big brother there on the patio.
I love the coloring on that Hollyhock....could you please save me some seeds from that one?
What day is your anniversary?

Nice flower pics. Before we left for our bike trip on Tuesday, the bike man and I were feverishly weeding our hosta gardens and laying down mulch. It's a never ending job.

Nice house and yard photo.

Connie- We will save the seed for you. No matter which color of seeds we use from your Mom's collection, they are beautiful! Our anniversary was July 4.

The holly hocks are so pretty and the bee balm in red is such a cool flower. Kind of tropical looking. I haven't been lucky enough for the hummingbirds to find mine yet. I keep hoping.

Thanks for visiting!
